Hello,

I recently downloaded a new copy of Composer 2.5.2 for a new computer using Win7. I find that when I start a new file, I am unable to select the staffs I want because the Select Ensemble box is blank! I know that I could use the Select Staffs Window and add them one by one, however the measures are not connected if I do it this way. How do I get the list back?

Hi Kay,

This is an issue with the Templates, and sometimes occurs in Vista and Windows 7 if the "permissions" are not set appropriately.

The following is from the Notation Software Knowledgebase (http://notation.com/helpdesk/admin/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=view).

-----------------
Why does Composer have a problem opening the Templates in Vista?

There is sometimes a problem with Vista if a user doesn't have the right "permissions" settings for a folder. You will need to be sure that your user name on your machine has "full control" settings for the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\Notation\Templates\

To check this, you can right-click the Windows Start button, and select Explore.

1. On the left panel, you will see the directory for your computer.
2. Find the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\Notation\Templates\
3. Right-click the folder name. A menu will be displayed.
4. In the menu, select Properties. The Notation Properties dialog box will be displayed.
5. In the dialog box, click the Security table.
6. At the Security tab, for Group or User Name, select your Windows Vista username.
7. Also at the Security tab, for Permissions, choose Full Control.
8. Enter OK to finish the dialog box.

If the above does not solve the problem, please let us know at support@notation.com

Hi Kay (and others),

It turns out that the problem was that, for some reason other than permissions apparently, the Template files did not install properly in the Template folder.

For anyone else who may run into such a problem, or who may have adjusted their own template files but would like to have the originals, I'm posting a zip file that contains the "standard" templates that we currently include with Notation Musician and Notation Composer.

If anyone else has a template file that you've created (Ralph, maybe your septet?) and would like to share, please feel free to post them here or in "Share your music". A template file is really only a .not file that (1) has no notes (2) has the instruments and formatting that you like and (3) is saved in the /Template folder. Easy ;)

Enjoy!
Sherry
