Howdy friends,

Here's a "rough and ready" video showing how you import a device description (.mdd) or Cakewalk Instrument Definition (.ins) file into Notation Composer or Notation Musician. With the availability of some excellent and affordable synths and keyboards out there, hopefully many folks will find it a helpful bit of information.

Enjoy!

What has happened to instrument definition files? The Cakewalk ftp site is now password protected, and I can't seem to find files for newer instruments (I'm specifically looking for the Roland FP7-f) Is the definition file concept going away or is there another method to import your banks/patches?

Hi,

INS files are still around, and Cakewalk has made their own catalog a bit less accessible than it used to be. I've posted a bunch that I had previously downloaded in this other thread (http://www.notation.com/vb-forum/showthread.php?t=3891). There are also links to some other sites where you can find Yamaha INS files. If the one you're looking for is not in the group that I posted, nor at one of the sites linked from there, you can try searching the internet, using "INS file YOURDEVICEHERE".

Hope this helps!
Sherry
