I like to play clarinet to midi songs but some of them have the melody line mainly in chords. Is it possible to extract the top notes without the rest of the chord being present? I want the accompanyment to play with me.

Yes, you can use Staff/Split melody and accompaniment. It will then place the top melody notes on one staff and the remaining accompaniment notes on a second staff.
