Notation Composer 2.0 beta release 1.9.6 is now available.

If you have already installed version 1.9.4 or 1.9.5, you can download and install a small 1.7Mb patch that will update your copy of the beta release to version 1.9.6. The patch, as well as the complete setup for the beta release, is available at: www.notation.com/MidiNotateBetaRelease.htm (http://www.notation.com/MidiNotateBetaRelease.htm)

The name of MidiNotate has been changed to Notation! This product name change is intended to associate the product more closely with Notation Software's company name. Also, the simpler name Notation is in keeping with the ease-of-use of the product. Notation Composer still offers better integration of MIDI sequencing and notation editing than any other music notation product, but you don't have to think much about MIDI and its technical jargon. So, it makes sense to remove the MIDI jargon from the product name.

A few new small enhancements and bug fixes are in 1.9.6:

Instrument names. There is a new option to left-justify, right-justify, or center instrument names displayed to the left of the staves. Scheduled for a later beta release is an option to associated an instrument name with the brace or bracket spanning multiple staves, such as "Piano" for the right- and left-hand staves.

Accidentals. Enhancement: Add accidentals to the Note Palette.

Shared notehead. Fix bugs. The accidental sometimes was missing for a notehead shared by two stems for upper and lower voice. Also, in a 6:8 meter, a pitch shared by a dotted quarter note in one voice and an eighth note in the other voice was not correctly shared by the same notehead.

Playlist. Fix bug. Sometimes the first song in the playlist would not play upon starting.

Grace notes. Fix bug. When the written-out rhythm of grace notes is view, attempts to change the written-out duration or attack of the note resulted in a program failure.

Cheers
