Notation Composer Beta Release 1.9.7 is now available at www.notation.com/MidiNotateBetaRelease.htm (http://www.notation.com/MidiNotateBetaRelease.htm)
NOTE: Starting with version 1.9.7, the setup program now installs Notation Composer in the \Program Files\Notation Beta\Composer directory rather than \Program Files\MidiNotate Beta\Composer directory. If you choose to uninstall the prior MidiNotate Composer beta release and also manually delete the \Program Files\MidiNotate Beta\Composer, then first copy your song files from the \Program Files\MidiNotate Beta\Songs directory to the \Program Files\Notation Beta\Songs directory.
Also, if you have invested effort in configuring MIDI devices in Composer, then copy \Program Files\MidiNotate Beta\MidiDev.cfg to \Program Files\MidiNotate Beta\MidiDev.cfg
Notation Composer 1.9.7 includes the following enhancements:
Graphical (MIDI) editing tools. The behavior for showing and hiding graphical MIDI data (piano roll, velocity vectors, and MIDI graphs) has been simplified. Whenever you visit the palettes/tools for these types of data, the graphs will be automatically displayed. Whenever you are not visiting the palettes/tools for these types of data, the corresponding main toolbar buttons determine whether the graphical MIDI data is displayed. You may want to view, for example, piano roll data while editing accent marks, to determine which short notes should have stacatto accent marks. The main toolbar button for MIDI graphs now has a drop-down menu from which you can select the type of MIDI graph (eg, tempo, volume, or pitch bend) that you want to view.
Also, the display of piano roll notation has been improved in the case of selected notes that are locked. Such notes are now shown with a empty rectangle to show that any editing of the attack or duration of the note will affect only the as-notated attack or duration, not the performance.
Brackets and braces. You can now assign text that is displayed to the left of a bracket or brace. For example, you can display "Piano" to the left of the right- and left-hand piano staves. You can also display separate instrument names for staves within the bracket/brace group, or alternatively hide them. For example, in an orchestral score, you might specify "Violins" for the bracket group, and "I" and "II" for the two staves for the Violin I and Violin II sections.
Auto-save. The auto-save feature has been enhanced so that it cycles through multiple backups per song file, as many backups as you specify in the File / Auto-Save / Options dialog box. The default is 5 backups per song file. This provides added protection if you return to a recently edited version of the song file.
Stretch objects. Stretch objects that can cross barlines, such as hairpin crescendo marks and slurs are now much more accommodating to insertion and deletion of measures in the middle of the objects, and to deletion of barlines they cross, and to changing of meters.
