BTW, can you yodel? That could work!
Cheers,
Fred

For some reason, that tune opened in Quick Time and the sound is terrible. Better to open it in Windows Media. I'll check to see if that was my fault and change it if possible.

Howdy Fred,

(You probably somehow got Quick Time set as your default media player, and it seems to like to claim everything when you install it. I've got Composer set as my default MIDI playback.)

As we'd a said down home "DANG, boy, ye're good!" That brought back memories of the bluegrass festivals we used to have back home (that'd be North Carolina), and they'd always have a clogging area set up for just such songs as this one. (For those who are wondering, clogging is almost the same thing as the Irish "step dancing" that goes on in Riverdance, except in clogging you get to raise your hands above your waist. Authentic step dancing doesn't allow that.) This is a stomper!

And yes, yodeling would fit right in - some day when no one else is around I might try it with this song http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif The section at the end where you've got banjos and fiddles playing unison reminds me of one of my favorite local groups, The Sugar Loaf Ramblers, who used to do that with nearly every song they played, and it always amazed me how they both got so many notes in in unison. And the double-stop fiddle solos - most convincing!

Once again, you never cease to amaze me http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif

ttfn,
Sherry

Delightful, Fred! Just downright delightful!

Thank you so much for sharing your music with us. With all the music being shared here, I feel as if I'm in the presence of giants. I wish I could stand upon your shoulders, but my balance is pretty bad.

I'm planning a return to singing in our chorus, now that my myasthenia gravis seems to be better controlled, so I may be using MidiNotate more than I have recently.

But I've also returned to working on websites and programming for income, leaving me far less time to play with music than I would like.

Blessings,

Lee Eschen

Hi Lee,
Thank you for the nice words of encouragement. It sure is great news to hear you are getting the myasthenia gravis under control. That is fantastic! If it lets you work more with the software that is a tremendous bonus. I hadn't written anything in years and years until I got Composer a year and a half ago. Now it is even replacing a lot of golf. You would have a tough time trying to reach my shoulders. I am standing on the shoulders of quite a few great composers on this site. You're right, we are both in the presence of giants!
Speaking of websites, I just finished mine. Feel free to take a look. Maybe you can give me some insight. Thanks again!
Fred

Howdy Sherry Gal,
Hah! I knew you could yodel!http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif
Take the song and yodel all you want. I'd love to hear it!
Thank you, I sometimes amaze myself. I can't believe how easy it is getting to be. I'm learning all kinds of shortcuts and tricks. Take 3 chords, a simple melody and write variations around it ( I think that was Mozart's secret ) throw in a bunch of copy and paste and it's a done deal. I just did in a day and a half what would have taken me months to do a year ago. I can't thank Mark enough!
Cheers,
Fred

Hi Fred,

Now that thar be agoin some. Guess what I'm listening to. It's astounding how easily you can segue from style to style and bring a sense of authenticity to each.

You don't hear the old music much any more in this immediate area, but I can clearly remember when there was a square dance every weekend, with local musicians, including my father in law, who played fiddle and what I always called a Hawaiian guitar, and you have the sound down pat. West Virginia PBS has produced a number of programs that are about or include segments with folks really deep in the hills playing and singing; I can easily picture the front porch of a cabin populated by a couple of guys with fiddles and banjos and a squeeze box, and of course a washboard, when I listen to "Blue, Blue Grass..."

While on TV: Ohio University's PBS channel has a program called "Jubilee" every Thursday evening, each featuring a different group, often bluegrass. I'm not sure if it's just local or national, but you might check your listings, if you'd like to hear some "live" stuff.

I visited your website. Very nice. Hay, with a swing like that, you ought to keep score... You can tell Patsy that if I were analyzing her work to a room full of students, I would use the word "genius" somewhere along the way. I hope she exhibits... When you took the crumpled clarinet back to Ted, if you'd had Raven along, he might have given you a refund...

After the bluegrass, what's next? Can't wait to find out.

all best,
mgj

Hi MG,
quote: It's astounding how easily you can segue from style to style and bring a sense of authenticity to each.

I have a good excuse. I have played in just about every type of band you can think of (except Bluegrass). It amazed me how easy it was. I just pretended it was a classical theme and put variations to it.

>: You can tell Patsy that if I were analyzing her work to a room full of students, I would use the word "genius" somewhere along the way.

She continues to insist I remove the word 'genius'. She is so modest.

BTW, I was only kidding, I really do keep my golf score. I just don't tell anybody how bad it is.

Yep, I believe Raven could have gotten me a refund! I have no worries about leaving my doors open with him around. I used to raise and train German Shepherds. I once had 17 at one time back home. I didn't lock my doors then, either.

>: After the bluegrass, what's next? Can't wait to find out

I dunno. How 'bout some heavy metal? hee, hee! http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif
I really need to get back to the piano and write something pretty, but I haven't been in that kind of mood lately. Maybe I should play my acoustic piano more. I've gotten so lazy with this keyboard.

Cheers,
Fred
