And now to the sequel....About 6 weeks after Aerya arrived along came Max, my second Great Grandchild. Boy Oh Boy!!! one of each..How lucky can I get.Aerya was born in Alberta Canada but Max was born in Yorkshire England, every couple of weeks I get a little video in my E mail showing the progress of a smiling happy little boy who is always laughing and chortling, I believe he must have my sense of humour. Anyway, my brother who is a great clarinetist had suggested that I write something new for him, so after having done the Clarinet Polka as a duet for him I wrote another piece, I tried to make it happy and bright, I think it matches Max's seemingly permanent mood so I called it "The Merry Max Polka", by the way, my brother plays it very well and has even added some embellishments. I hope it meets with your approval.

Have a Good one.....TTYL....Derek.<center><table border=1><tr><td>http://www.notation.com/discus/icons/attachment_icon.gif"The Merry Max Polka"

Hi Derek,,

Merry Max Polka is absolutely electrifying! If you run out of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I am sure all of us on this forum would be glad to send you the names of our's so we could get a couple hundred more great songs. http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif

Howdy Derek,

What fun!! I really enjoyed this piece, and your enthusiasm really comes through again. Kids are a great inspiration, aren't they? http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif) I'll bet he (and Aerya) dance to their tunes - and lots more!

ttfn,
Sherry

Good Morning again Everyone...I thought I'd start the week off with a bright little number which is my latest arrangement. It is called "Souvenir of the Circus Renz", actually the title was in French but I am using the translation. Although I am putting it in the Polka section it is actually a "Galop" but you might be able to dance a Polka to it. I have split the parts to show it as near as I can to my arrangement and it isn't too far out, anyway, I hope this lively little number brightens up your day and brings a smile to the face.

Have a Good one.....TTYL......Derek.<center><table border=1><tr><td>http://www.notation.com/discus/icons/attachment_icon.gifSouvenir of the Circus Renz.

Hi, Derek:

The midi file opens just fine for me. Great fun with lots of energy and excitement.

I note that your original Souvenir file is a .mus format file, not a .not format file. Did you mean to post a .not file?

David

Hello David...Thank you for your kind comments,it was a fun piece to work on, I did not intend to post a .MUS file so I am glad you noticed it, I have now tried to post it as a .NOT file but it is too big apparently and as I haven't the faintest idea as to how to split it up I suggest you drop it into Composer and then split the hands and again split the R/H and L/H and it will look something like my original score. Have a Good one......

TTYL.....Derek.

Hi Fred, Here we are with the augmented Clarinet Polka. The original duet was fine but the guys in the band who couldn't play it asked me to do an easier part so they could join in, this is the result.Play the Midi file first, I didn't put it in .NOT because it looked awful but you can hear the 3rd part just fine because I put it in 3 octaves.

The 1st .NOT file is the original part I wrote but because some of the guys had accordions without the lower notes I added 2 more octaves to accommodate everyone. The 2nd .NOT files is of the 3 octaves, I did have one with just 2 octaves but it seems to have disappeared but you can delete one of the octaves if you feel like it. Anyway Fred I hope you can make use of it with your own arrangement.<center><table border=1><tr><td>http://www.notation.com/discus/icons/attachment_icon.gifClarinet Polka as a Trio

Hi Derek,

I like the midi file. It will be quite some time before I can work on integrating it with mine. With going back and forth to Balimore from Virginia Beach, my time is short. The sound on my old computer in Baltimore is horrible and I have to change everything I do when I get back on my good computer. Thank you for the file, though, it will be fun to work on at a later time.
BTW, your Souvenir de Cirque was really fun to listen to. Nice arrangement! It did put a smile on my face.http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif

Cheers,
Fred

Hi, Fred!

I have heard one of your last pieces about a month ago. It was dedicated to your wife. That was an absolutely gorgeous tune! Unfortunately, I was so busy at this time, I couldn't even write my comments to this.

I have a question, my friend. In the melody I've heard some small and beautiful deviations, like a GLISSANDO. But I couldn't find such a feature in Composer. How did you do that?

Be happy.
Kombrig.

Hi Kombrig,

Thank you! If you are referring to some of the slides in the sax part, it is done with "pitch bends". Select "graph over notes" then select pitch bend control. Drawing the pitch bends is a little tricky and takes some practice. After making the above selections, just page down and you will see the red drawings. They can be copied and pasted into other songs as well.

By the way, my wife wrote lyrics for that song and I entered it into the "American Idol Songwriter Contest". I did not release the vocal on that song because I had no choice but to sing it myself and I sound like a frog being choked. The producers will select the top 20 songs from those submitted and then the public will vote (beginning May 2nd).

Cheers,
Fred

Hi, Fred!

I appreciate your hint! Thank you so much. But those slides require kind of special skills. For now on it's come out bad and ugly. However, I'm going to continue to practice...

So, your wife is a poet? Good for her!
Listen, Fred, she probably could help me. I wrote a couple of bossanovas (1. The Joy Is Yet To come. 2. Dreaming of Her Lips). You can find it at Bossanova section of this page. And many years ago I wrote a rumba "When I'm Alone" (at the Rumba section). Could you show it to her, my friend? If she interested, she could write a lyrics? I would be endlessly grateful for that!

Be happy.
Kombrig.

Hi Kombrig,

Quote: But those slides require kind of special skills. For now on it's come out bad and ugly. However, I'm going to continue to practice...

You have no idea how bad and ugly my slides sounded when I first started trying them. The procedure was : draw/erase, draw/erase, draw/erase, etc. I spent over an hour on one slide. Then, I got smart. I downloaded songs containing those slides done by professionals, and I copied the slides they did. Then I applied the copied slides to notes of various durations and made a file. Then I simply kept drawing the slides myself as I saw them and made my own. From there, it got easier as time went on but there was much frustration early on. Now, it's actually fun!

No, Kombrig, she is not a poet. She is a fantastic artist, however. I have always believed that if you are an artist of any kind, it is possible to switch to a different kind of "art" and have some success. What is required is motivation. It took much coaxing on my part to get her to write the lyrics for my song. Finally, she said "Get me some paper and a pencil and get out of the room and leave me alone". The next day, she presented me with the lyrics. They needed a little editing, but I at least had some experience in that department. She loves the song and knew how much I wanted to submit it to American Idol. That was her "inspiration"... to switch from paint brush to pencil. I know my song will not be selected as one of the top 20. There were over 25,000 songs entered...many by true professionals, but I took the shot anyway. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained".

I did tell her of your request, and will play your songs for her. But I think the poor old gal is worn out from the last one.http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif. She did say she was flattered that you would ask her to do it.

Cheers,
Fred
