What happened to MidiNotate?

The first MidiNotate product was introduced in the fall of 1999. It was designed to transcribe MIDI files to sheet music notation. That is, to take "MIDI" files and "Notate" them, thus the name. The last version was MidiNotate 4.0.9.

Program development continued, and in November 2004 MidiNotate Musician 1.0 and MidiNotate Composer 1.0 were introduced. It was decided to keep the "MidiNotate" name as the brand name, to closely associate the products with the former MidiNotate program.

Musician essentially is the more mature version of the original MidiNotate product, with more features. Composer expanded on those features by additionally allowing note entry and fine editing of the MIDI performance of the song. Later, a free Player was also added to the product line - MidiNotate Player. It was intended solely as a "reader" for MIDI (.mid), Karaoke (.kar) and NoteSoft(tm) (.not) files that were created with Musician and Composer.

In January 2007 version 2.0 was released, and in order to more closely associate the products with the parent company, Notation Software, Inc. the brand name was change to "Notation". Therefore the products are now known as Notation Musician and Notation Composer.

Notation Composer uses the same excellent transcription engine. Composer thus frees users to improvise on their MIDI instrument while recording into Composer, and gives accurate notation. The score and the performance can then be edited separately or together, with exquisite ease and precision to give a polished performance as well as the accompanying high-quality score.
