Hi Everyone! I am impressed of Notation. I have never seen such a beatifully interpretation of a standard MIDI-score. Well done! However; I would like Notation to add an extra Clef(Bass-Clef 8va),because so many MIDI-files are made with the bass one octave(at least) too low, and the transcription becomes difficult to read. Regards, Staffan |

Hi Staffan, I'm glad that you're enjoying using Notation - I'm sure that your comments will make Mark (the developer) very happy, too The "bass clef 8va" is on the to-do list, but in the meantime you can use the "Staff/Transpose instrument key" dialog to bring the notation in line with standard bass notation. I'm quite familiar with this feature because I play bass, and I use Composer to practice my sight reading. All those leger lines way down low would make it difficult to read ttfn, Sherry |

Hi Sherry Speaking of "bass clefs", I was wondering how to manage creating bass lines in Composer using a bass guitar instead of creating bass lines with the Keyboard.I know that there exists bass to Midi devices (external or software),but I couldn`t find any relevant topic on this matter.Any suggestion ? By the way, still manage to do some playing despite being a Musician associate now ? Keep on grooving Djim |

Hi Djim, ------------- I was wondering how to manage creating bass lines in Composer using a bass guitar instead of creating bass lines with the Keyboard. ------------- I'd love to do that - it would be a lot more natural for me! You're right that there are MIDI pickups for bass as well as g*****r (as we put it on our cb list ), but I've never tried one out. The Axiom is apparently the MIDI pickup of choice for bass, but they're pretty expensive. They work the same as a MIDI keyboard for recording into Composer, but of course part of the quality of the MIDI file you get comes from how well the pickup actually tracks the notes you're playing. Keyboards are relatively easy to get a good MIDI file from, because everything is "hard wired" pretty much, rather than relying on how good the pickup "reads" the string vibration and all that. I do still manage to play regularly (I play bass in our church worship band), and I also play a few other instruments, just not as often as I'd like to. But then again, to do everything that I like doing would require a 36 hour day, still only sleeping 6-8 hours I do have an exciting musical gig coming up. The music leader at our church and myself have been asked to participate in a band for the pre-fireworks finale of our church's district camp this summer. This is a pretty big deal for the two of us, because we've never played in front of that many people before. It should be a lot of fun, and we've already started working on the music (it happens in August). We'll actually have a drummer (we don't have one at our church), so it will be quite different for me, because I can just play bass rather than having to be the main rhythm keeper as well - I can really just groove with the drummer. I've been using Composer to practice with a lot of drum tracks Any tips on playing with a live drummer would be welcome I checked out some of the resources you'd listed in another thread - thanks for sharing those! I also found out about a new bass site "SayBass", at http://www.saybass.com/SBC/Home.html. They have a podcast going now, and the first guy up is my buddy Norm Stockton. He's a monster player, and just a great guy all around. They're just getting going, but it seems they've got some good resources coming up. How is your fretless work on your cello pieces coming along? ttfn, Sherry |

Hi Sherry Glad to hear that you`re doing fine and I will check out SayBass. I was already afraid that there is no solution, except the expensive way,to MIDI our bass into Composer.Well, that leaves more time for practising, doesn`t it ? ------------- Tips on playing with a drummer ----------------------- Depends on the kind of drummer ( nice or lousy guys like some ego-trippers I happened to play with ).Some guys are very difficult to let you locking in.Also depends where you are standing on stage. If playing with a "nice" guy I tried to stay close, otherwise I kept an eye on his rite cymbal which is usually quite well visible from a distance even with bad lighting.Surely other Musician bass players could come with better tips . Maybe a new thread ( MUSICIANS Bass players corner) for discussing bass matters instead of "set up problems" when trying to fool Bill Gates ( besides -who is fooling who-) ? ---------------------- my fretles work on cello pieces ----------------------- Have you ever tried Bach Prelude in G maj. on your fretless on full speed ( 120 bpm) and listening straight ( no effects etc) through a pair of Behringer nearfield montors ?I did,and it gave me some horrible impressions on my intonation skills. It`s quite different than pumping root-fiths through a 400 Watt amp over a noisy crowd on a victory celebration party of a Students Rowing or Rugby club,I can assure you. So your up for a big venue in August ? I am sure you will be doing great and I hope there will be a "nice guy " to lock in with. So keep me informed ! Keep grooving Djim --------------------- |

Hi, Djim and Sherry: Try this: Lateral Solution Ltd, lateralsol.com. Their Guitar Synth V2.2 takes audio input from a guitar and turns it into synth (read MIDI) output. It will take a bit of juggling with Maple Midi or Hubi's Loopback device to connect to Composer. I haven't tried it with bass, but it might do what you want as far as direct input into Composer goes. Howdy David, I tried www.lateralsol.com, but it looks like mainly a search portal, with links to elsewhere, or am I missing something? ttfn, Sherry |
