Hi Sherry
Just curious to learn something about the above mentioned software and itīs true relation to Notation software.
I always recommended the free Notation Player ( to musician friends, " bandmates " etc )for exchanging mid/not files ( just for fun or for rehearsing purposes for a next "gig " ), the only " missing features " being a so called "slow downer and a pitch shifter "( to accomodate a wannabee Eric Clapton or Madonna ,for instance ).
These features were and still are available when downloading the above mentioned software from a certain website providing midi e.o. files.
Unfortunately ( or fortunately ) not.files from Composer2.5.2 are not recognized,thus useless when using this software.
What happened ?
Regards
Djim

Howdy Djim,

Ah, the product history story :-)

"MidiNotate" is the original Notation Software, Inc. product.

Mark continued development which led to Musician and Composer. When they were first released, the brand name "MidiNotate" was used to associate those products with the previous MidiNotate product. Later, a free Player was also added to the product line - MidiNotate Player. It was intended solely as a "reader" for .not files and a bare-bones reader for .mid files.

With later releases of the products, the brand name changed to "Notation" to more closely associate them with the parent company name, Notation Software.

So, the product history looks something like the following. Earliest to latest is left to right, number of features increases top to bottom:

____________MidiNotate Player -> Notation Player

MidiNotate -> MidiNotate Musician -> Notation Musician

____________MidiNotate Composer -> Notation Composer

Later version files will not play on earlier version software (eg. version 2.0 files won't play on the 1.0 software), so that's why you can't use current .not files on the older MidiNotate Player (though Mark has been working diligently to change that for upcoming versions).

And now you know.... the rest of the story ;)

ttfn,
Sherry

Hi Sherry
Thanks for the story.Still wondering about two aspects.
a. how is it possible that a third party is actually still using a
Notation( Markīs ) product freely to stimulate customers to buy their
products without proper back up ( updates etc. )?
b. will Notation Player have the same features ( slowing down- pitch
adjustment )in future ?
Sorry for these questions,because I feel some kind of " injustice " ( not knowing how to say this in your language )done to Mark and the Notation
Player users.
Perhaps I should stop wondering about "things " at my age and continue just having fun in making music, in some way or another.
Regards
Djim
