I was thinking of installing UBUNTU on my PC and was wondering whether notation composer will work ok with it. Do you have any experience of this.
Thankyou

Howdy Delia,

We haven't had any other users report using our software under UBUNTU. However, please feel free to try out a trial version and let us know how it goes. You can visit www.notation.com/Download.htm and get a free 30 day trial version of either Musician or Composer. They're both fully functional for the trial period, so it would give you the opportunity to see how they work under UBUNTO.

ttfn,
Sherry

Hi Delia & Sherry,
I have experimented with Ubuntu and it is an excellent Operating System

It is doubtful that Composer will work under Ubuntu directly, but Ubuntu (and other linux systems) have a program called WINE that is a WINdows Emulator. I have not tried running Composer in that, but it would be interesting to see how it goes. WINE is able to emulate programs like photshop, and so it may have a good chance or running Composer.

Currently I use an iMac, and I run Composer in a Windows emulator called 'Parallels' and it works fine. Also in that Parallels program I run a number of different Linux operating systems.

(The reason for all the Linux systems, is that I am currently heading up establishing a computer recycling 'mens shed' through our Church, and we are planning to rebuild computers and install a free operating system on them - and we have selected Ubuntu. For word processing we will install Open Office. In the end, it all looks like Windows XP (or even better) but absolutely free).

Cheers ... Clyde

Hi Delia & Sherry,
Just a further note about WINE - see http://www.winehq.org/ on what WINE can do, and how it works.

It says:
Think of Wine as a compatibility layer for running Windows programs. Wine does not require Microsoft Windows, as it is a completely free alternative implementation of the Windows API consisting of 100% non-Microsoft code, however Wine can optionally use native Windows DLLs if they are available. Wine provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows source code to Unix

Cheers ... Clyde
