I have a Free quick little program that makes screen capture very easy: Attached pgm is called SnapShot.
I keep it in my StartUp Folder. So its always available in Status Bar.
It has one pull down menu, named "Actions".
When you click on "Actions", up comes a pulldown menue,
with three options: START , COPY , SAVEAS .
When you click START , pgm enable your cursor to become a rectangular LASSO.
Move the cursor to a corner of the screen area you want to capture.
Then press the Left-Mouse and HOLD DOWN button and DRAG LASSO to diagonal corner of capture area. Then release the Left-Mouse button.
Then click either the COPY or SAVEAS options.
COPY copies image to the clipboard.
SAVEAS will save as either .bmp or .jpg .
.jpg keeps your image (disk space) small. .bmp keeps your image (disk space) large.

SnapShot does not use windows registry.
I recommend creating a new Folder in your User 'My Documents' Folder , and keep all your snapShots in there.
Also, create a shortcut for SnapShot.exe on your Desktop.
Happy Trails...
