I have installed the latest version of your "trial" software. The program runs without any problems...until I close it. Every time I close the program I get an error message... "Midinotate has caused an error in shell 32.dll. Midinote will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer." Most of the time I can close the error message and continue without restarting. Sometimes the everything just "locks up" and I have to turn off the PC in order to restart.

Please Help, I am a teacher and I love the program.

There have been some reports of MidiNotate having trouble during exiting. This is the first time that the problem has been associated with the Windows system file shell32.dll. This might be a valuable clue in pinning down the problem.

Does this problem only occur sometimes and not other times? If so, have you associated the problem with any particular things you might have been doing in MidiNotate before you attempt to exit it?

The association of this problem with shell32.dll suggests that you might find that the problem only occurs when you open a MIDI not by using the File / Open command within MidiNotate but, rather, by double-clicking the MIDI file name when you are browsing through a directory using the Windows Explore (file manager). Is my guess correct? If not, perhaps this problem has something else to do with how you are opening the MIDI file?

I will appreciate your further help in pinning down the problem.

Cheers

Thanks for the info Mark. In answer to your questions.

The problem happens every time.

All I have done in MidiNotate, so far, is open files, play them and exit. I tried opening just one file, closing it and exiting the program...I get the same error every time.

I have tried opening the files from the explorer, a toolbar and from within the program...I still get the error.

On the positive side, my computer has only locked up once. I have been able to close the error message and continue working without restarting.

Where do we go from here. I really love the program, but I don't want to purchase it until I can solve this problem.

Thanks Again

Hi, Chuck

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner, but I took a few days of vacation. Your thorough reply helps a lot.

Is the reported error still "Midinotate has caused an error in shell32.dll."?

If so, could you send me your shell32.dll file in an email attachment? You will find it in your Windows/System32 or WinNt/System32 directory.

Also, please let me know what Windows version you are using (95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, or XP).

Thanks!

Hello Cajuno,

Which version of Windows are you running?

Note, MidiNotate does not run on Windows 95, only Windows 98 and later.

Hello Cajuno,

Try a Google search for "shell32.dll" and Windows 98.

Cheers
