I am getting a startup error from my desktop shortcut "invalid page fault" Note32.DLL at 017F: 10071300. Has anyone experienced this error and knows the fix so I can launch the program? I have browsed the thread and can't find similar type of errors. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Jim,

The Note32.DLL at 017F: 10071300 information tells me that the problem is in the area of MidiNotate's detection of your MIDI devices.

Where you able to use MidiNotate successfully for a while, then suddenly started getting this error? If so, did you anything to the installation of MidiNotate or other software on your system right before you started getting this error? For example, did you install new MIDI equipment, or a new version of Windows? Or, did you attempt to copy MidiNotate's files from one computer or hard drive to another?

Please try this work-around: Use the Start menu at the bottom left corner of your screen and choose Explore. Navigate to this directory: c:\Program Files\Notation Software, Inc\MidiNotate
In that directory, rename file NoteSoft.ini to NoteSoft.bak. Then run MidiNotate again. Does that cure the problem?

Cheers

Yes that corrected the problem!!! Had to check the properties though the Notesoft file didn't have the .ini after the filename, It immediately launched after changing the extension to bak. And for your reference I several notation, sequencers, players that conflict with each other occasionally on top of the soundcards finikieness. In addition to this I moved 3 weeks ago and lost all my disks! Slowly I'm back in business.

Thanks for help, I enjoy the programs feature of transcription it's the best feature found, speeds up my work.

Hello Jim,

I'm pleased that this worked about.

The tip / work-around I offered you has cured problems for many MidiNotate users.

The next version of MidiNotate will have a built-in self-correcting MIDI device detection feature so that it won't be necessary for some users to employ this manual work-around.

I'm pleased to hear that MidiNotate's transcription is helping you.

Cheers

I'm back after a few years.... I'm forced to upgrade my computer hardware and software from 98SE to XP Home Edition. So now I'm presented with a startup problem again, as everyone knows, XP wants to control software, but using the instructions sent to me in 2003 I changed the Notessoft file extension to Notesoft.bak and then I configure the devices and the program works fine, I can hear audio through my keyboard. But when I close the program and relaunch from my desktop shortcut I get everybodys favorite message which is "Microsft has encountered a problem" and do you want to send them a message" no is my answer. Additiaonally the original Notesoft configuration setting file returns, If I delete the original file I can use the program. Very annoying, have I supplied enough information?

So how do I workaround this? I know I'm close but I've ran out of tricks to keep my settings.

Thanks in Advance

Hello Jim,

MidiNotate 4.0.9 works on XP Home or Pro fine. (By the way, MidiNotate 4.0.x is no longer sold. It has been replaced by MidiNotate Musician 1.0, which you can upgrade to for $14.95USD).

You're best bet probably is to re-install MidiNotate 4.0.9. You can redownload MidiNotate 4.0.9 free of charge from www.notation.com/redownload.htm

Cheers

Ok I uninstalled V4 and I am still getting the same results. I can get it to work, when I close down the applicaiton and restart I'm still getting the windows thing about quitting. This will be my last attempt to get it to work on XP. Anybody have the same problem?

Hello Jim,

Does the error message include a program location (number) that looks something like 0x00431c47 ?

Hello Jim,

The screenshot shows me a program error location that is almost exactly the same one as you reported in January 2004 on Win98 instead of WinXP. I would think that the same work-around (renaming notesoft.ini) I offered back then might work again for you, but you have indicated that the work-around didn't work this time.

Another thing you might try is this: Use the Setup / MIDI Device Configuration command. Then use the Config / Initialize command in the MIDI Device Configuration window.

If that doesn't work, then you might want to try out the trial version of MidiNotate Musician 1.0 at www.notation.com. The upgrade from MidiNotate 4.0 to Musician 1.0 is only $14.95.

Cheers
