Bare with me on Music terminology as I'm a very green student.

Imported this song and it comes in as 6/16 timing/note size.

http://www.hetzlersfakebook.com/files/Swaggering_Jig.mid

Where the song is normally 6/8 Like this

http://www.scribd.com/doc/2976374/Swallowtail-Jig

It may perhaps be the Midi file itself that is throwing off Notation.

But as a beginning student it's a struggle site reading what Notation does. Is there a way I can help it display it as 6/8 so the notes look more like what is shown in the link above?

I figured out how to set the key and hide the other instruments but the 6/8 vs 6/16 is tough for a new student.

I wanted to add it especially difficult when you get used to reading it one way but when you go to class you have to relearn how to read it the other way. If I wasn't a "student" it wouldn't be an issue.

Howdy George,

You're correct that the difference in the timing is due to the file itself. However, there's a nifty feature in Notation products that helps that problem.

Open the song, and click on the Staff Symbols palette, and then the Meter button (3/4C). The lower-right button is a "Scale Notes" command which you can use to change all the note duration values by some multiple. Here, you'd want to make all quarter notes into half notes (ie, double the note durations).

However, for this file, that's not quite enough :-) You'll also need to change the meter as well. Just double click on the 9/16 meter in the score (yup, an odd one, that) and then select 6/8 in the dialog.

That should put it like, or closer to, the other score you linked.

ttfn,
Sherry

I'm still pretty green at reading music at all but after a little trial and error doing the above and changing it to 6/8 it looks exactly like the original sheet music now.

Thanks.
