Repeat Instructions for Performances

Musician will automatically play repeats and endings as notated. However, if a repeated section includes more than two verses of lyrics, Musician will not automatically repeat that section more than two times. You can provide Musician with specific instructions for repeating the section for as many times as there are verses in the section.

Also, Musician does not automatically interpret "go to" performance instructions, such as D.C. al Segno. You can provide Musician with specific instructions for exactly interpreting such "go to" designations in the score.

 
To instruct Musician to repeat a section during playback for as many times as there are verses:

Consider the following example with three verses (skipping the remaining ninety-seven verses):

If you have already navigated to the Barline Palette, then choose the Repeat Instructions command in the Measure Menu.

Type "qri" for Quick Repeat Instructions.

Musician will display the Repeat Instructions dialog box:

The bottom portion of the dialog indicates Musician's default interpretation of the repeat marks. Musician plays the repeated section only twice, ignoring the third verse.

The upper portion of the dialog box enables you to override Musician's performance of repeats and other "go to" instructions. By default, for this song, Musician plays the pick-up measure #1, then the first verse measures #2 through #5, and then the second verse measures #2 through #5.

Prepare to add a new instruction below the last instruction for the second verse, by selecting the last instruction in first of the two tables in the dialog box:

Click the Insert New Repeat Instruction button.

Musician will insert a third empty row in the table:

Enter the instruction for the third verse. Like the second verse, the third verse starts at measure #2 and extends through measure #5. You can add a comment if you might find it useful later to help you remember the purpose of the instruction; and you can modify the comments for other instructions:

The following example shows how Musician automatically prepares the repeat instructions for repeats and endings, even non-sequential endings. Musician, however, does not automatically interpret "go to" performance instructions, such as D.C. al Segno. The following example shows how you can provide Musician with specific instructions for exactly interpreting such "go to" designations in the score.

 
To specify relatively complex "go to" instructions in the score:

Consider the following example with four endings, a segno mark, a D.C. al Segno instruction, and a Coda:
