MIDI File Search Engines
A list of the best MIDI file search engine web sites, mostly free downloads.
You can turn any of these files into free sheet music with easy-to-use sheet music software.
The web sites listed below offer automatic searches for MIDI files on the Internet . Although the automatic searches lack discretion that a dedicated musician might exercise in collecting the MIDI files, an automatic search might come up with exactly the MIDI file you are looking for.
If the specialized MIDI file search engines below are not able to help you find the MIDI file you are looking for, then you should try using your favorite general search engine, such as Google or Yahoo. For the search keywords, type "MIDI" followed by the name of the song or artist you are looking for, such as "MIDI Yesterday".
Inter-Search MIDI - Type in the name of the music, composer or artist you are seeking and this easy-to-use MIDI file search engine will immediately list all of the matching MIDI files that it has collected in a database of 1.5 million MIDI files across the Internet.
MidiSite - This web site maintains a list of more than one million MIDI files that it collects automatically. Just type in the name of the music or artist/composer, and you'll be shown a list of web sites that match your search. You then can explore each web site to find the MIDI file you want. You may find many more MIDI files for the same artist/composer this way.
MelodyHound - Do you know how the song sounds, but don't remember it's name? Sing a melody into your computer's microphone or click in some notes, and MelodyHound searches over 30,000 MIDI files on the Internet to find the songs that best match your tune. Give it try; we have found that it works!
MIDI Explorer - This site maintains a list of MIDI files that also have been collected automatically. This web site offers searching of MIDI files by song/composition title, but not by composer or artist. You may have to try a couple different ways of spelling the song/composition title before the search succeeds. But it is worth the effort if there is a particular music piece you need. The number of MIDI files in the database seems to be huge; but the site does not mention how many. If the normal search does not work, try the "Other Paths" option near the bottom of the MIDI Explorer page.
Laura's MIDI Heaven / Favorite MIDI Sites - This web page lists more than 400 other web sites that have MIDI files and information about MIDI. This is the largest directory of MIDI sites we know of, even larger than our (Notation Software's) own, but without the organization and review comments that we provide in our MIDI file pages.
vanBasco's MIDI Search - This site offers another search engine to find MIDI files. In the open field, enter the composer's or artist's name, or the song title. This engine looks for MIDI and Karaoke files.
