Handel MIDI Files

A list of the best web sites hosting MIDI files of Handel's music, mostly free downloads.
You can turn any of these files into free sheet music with easy-to-use sheet music software.

Handel's Messiah - This page has links to an exposition on the oratorio itself, and to the different parts of the work. It is divided into three pages, with the text printed alongside the midi file links for each piece in the work.

Handel's Messiah at MIDI Collection - The entire Messiah is nicely done at this site, and can be downloaded as a ZIP file.

Handel - Classical Music Symposium MIDI Composers Orchestra - A very nice biographical sketch, and some selected sequences. Be sure to click the "notes" to download the MIDIs.

Handel at Laura's MIDI Heaven - A very nice collection of MIDI sequences, with the various contributors acknowledged.

Classical Archives - Handel - This website has changed extensively, but has a tremendous number of fantastic MIDI files. MIDI files are now all free downloads, but you must find the specific work you are looking for and download the MIDI as follows:

  1. If you're not already a member (you can sign up for a free membership), click the "Become a member" link and enter your information.
  2. Find the particular work you’re looking for (do NOT use "MIDI" in any searches).
  3. Click the “MIDI” tab if there is one. If no "MIDI" tab is visible, then there are no MIDI files available for the work.
  4. Click on the “XX Midis” text.
  5. Click on the “Show sequences” text link to see the MIDI files that are available.
  6. Click the Download (or Add to Downloads) and the file is put in a cart called “My Downloads”.
  7. When you're done adding files (the MIDI files are free) to "My Downloads", click the "My Download button at the top of the page to go to your selected files and download them.

The Messiah in MIDI at Moore's Chapel - From this site - "The midi sequencing that [Dan] Viens used is representative of the actual instruments in use at the time that The Messiah was written, i.e.. harpsichord instead of modern piano or organ. So you will be hearing a close approximation of an actual performance from the 18th century."

ON Classical's George Frideric Handel MIDI files - An extensive collection of Handel's works - excellent quality files. To download a file, simply click on the "MIDI" text next to the title of the work. A limit of five files per day may be downloaded for non-members. For 15 Euros (about $19.75 USD), you can have unlimited access to all the files on this enormous site, as well as download them all in a zip file for convenience.

The Handel Page at MidiWorld - A large collection from a variety of contributors.

With the shutdown of GeoCities, a number of excellent webpages which hosted MIDI files have been lost. If you know of the new location for a website that once was here, please let us know about it!
