Viewing Piano Roll Notation While Annotating a Score

Go to the previous page in the Table of Contents.  Go to the next page in the Table of Contents.

Sometimes you might want to view the Piano Roll Notation as you are annotating the score.  For example, as you are adding staccato marks for notes, you can view the piano roll rectangles to see which notes are performed with a short duration relative to their as-notated duration.  Those are the notes for which you might want to add staccato marks:

B8 Click the Piano Roll ToolbarButtonPianoRoll button in Composer's toolbar.

Type CTRL + SHIFT + Y.  (Note: SHIFT +Y is the shortcut for the Piano Roll Palette).

B8If you need to see the rectangles more closely, then choose the Zoom In command in the View menu.

   Click the Zoom In displaying_piano_roll_no button.

   While holding down the "Z" key, hit the DownArrowKey key.
