Using the MIDI Device Configuration Window
The MIDI Device Configuration Window shows you how Windows MIDI ports and devices are configured in Composer.
For simple MIDI configurations that consist of no more than a soundcard and MIDI keyboard, you can use the Quick MIDI Device Setup window to quickly test MIDI playback and recording, and to inform Composer which MIDI output device you wish to use. In this case, you may not need to use the MIDI Device Configuration Window.
You will probably want to use the MIDI Device Configuration Window if your MIDI studio consists of more than one external MIDI device-- such as a MIDI keyboard plus one or more MIDI sound modules. In this case, the extra complexity of your MIDI studio will require some corresponding extra complexity in informing Composer about the physical arrangement of your MIDI equipment. That said, Composer's MIDI Device Configuration Window offers you an intutitive way to provide Composer this information.
To use the MIDI Device Configuration Window effectively, you will need to understand the distinction between MIDI port and device. The term MIDI port is something that is defined by Windows, and something that you find references to in most other MIDI programs. In contrast, the term MIDI device has a special definition in Composer, even though the word device is also used in many ways by other programs. It is important that you understand how Composer defines the term device, and the relationship between a port and a device. This is discussed in the topic Understanding the Difference Between a Port and a Device. We highly recommend that you review that topic before using the MIDI Device Configuration Window.
To open the MIDI Device Configuration Window:
Select the MIDI Device Config command from the Setup menu.
When you open the MIDI Device Configuration, you may find that the text in the MIDI Device Configuration Window is too small to read. You can change the text size, as described below.
To increase (or decrease) the font size of text in the MIDI Device Configuration Window:
Increase (decrease) the size of the window by dragging one of the corners
of the window outward (inward) with the mouse. The size of the text will expand to fit the new size of
the window if you make the window larger.

Choose Zoom In (Out) from the View menu.

Type Z+
or Z+
for Zoom Out or Zoom In
If you decrease the size of the window, the same text size will be preserved, and scrollbars will be added
to the window. You can zoom back out by choosing Zoom Out from the View menu, or by typing Z+.
Another option is also available:
To change the font size of the text in the MIDI Device Configuration Window to fit the current size of
the window:
Choose Scale to Fit from the View menu.
