Performance View and Editing Buttons
The following buttons in Composer's toolbar enable you to view and edit the underlying performance (MIDI) data in a musical score:

Note Timing (Piano Roll Notation)
When you click the Note Timing
button, Composer will display Piano
Roll Notation, such as illustrated here:

The Piano Roll Notation graphically shows the timing of notes, specifically, their MIDI note-on and note-off locations. When you are viewing the Piano Roll Notation, you can select notes and change their attack (note-on) and release (note-off) times, with buttons in the Piano Roll Palette, or with keyboard shortcuts, such as D + RightArrow, to increase the as-performed duration of a selected note. For details, see Viewing and Editing the Performance of Notes.
Note Loudness (Velocity Vectors)
When you click the Note Loudness
button, Composer will display note velocity
vectors, such as illustrated here:

The note velocity vectors graphically show the loudness (MIDI velocities) of notes. When you are viewing
the note velocity vectors, you can select notes and change their individual loudness with keyboard shortcuts
such as L +
to increase the loudness. For details, see Viewing
and Editing the Loudness of Notes.
Tempo, Volume, Pan, Pitch Bend, Sustain Pedal, MIDI Controllers (Graph View)
When you click the Graph View
button, Composer will display a graph, such as the following for the tempo in a theme section
of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue:

Using buttons in Composer's Graph Palette, you can choose the type of graphical music data you wish to edit (tempo, volume, etc.). You can also select the type of drawing tool (curve, line, eraser, etc.) that will edit the graph as you drag the mouse. For details, see Viewing and Editing Graphs of Musical Performance.
