Moving a Text Object

Two of Composer's five types of text objects can be freely moved around on the page: free text and page text.

The positions for the other three types of text-- lyrics, chord names, and rehearsal marks, are automatically determined by Composer in order, for example, to vertically align multiple objects of the same type. If you find it too confining that a given lyric, chord name, or rehearsal mark cannot be freely moved, then you might want to replace it with a free text object that can be freely moved.

You can move a free text or page text object either by dragging it with the mouse, or by selecting it and using the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Generate/prcarrow.gif To move a free text or page text object by using the arrow keys on your keyboard:

1.      Enter Select Mode.

2.      Click the text object you want to move.

3.      Type the Up, Down, Left, or RightArrowKey.gif keys one or more times to move the text.

Generate/prcarrow.gif To move a free text or page text object by dragging it with the mouse:

1.      Enter Select Mode.

2.      Click on and drag the object to a new position:

First Method

Generate/B816.gif      Click on the text object.

Generate/B816.gif      Before releasing the mouse button, drag the object to a new position.

Generate/B816.gif      Release the mouse button.

Second Method

Generate/B816.gif      Select the text object first by clicking it and releasing the mouse button.

Generate/B816.gif      Drag the already selected object, as described in the First Method.

TIP:
You might find it easier to move an object using the First Method rather than the Second Method. That is, do not select the text object first. Click on the text object and drag it in one operation, before releasing the mouse button.

The Second Method also works, but sometimes not as well. If you click the mouse on an already selected object, then Composer will not know that you intend to move the object until you drag the mouse outside of the area of the text object. If you drag the mouse only within the area of the text object, the Composer will assume that you want to select text within the object.

If an object is already selected, and you want to move it, we suggest that you first unselect it before dragging it to a new position. You can unselect the object by hitting the ESC key or by clicking in some empty space of the score outside of the text object.
